The Kelpies
The Kelpies are one of the largest equine sculptures in the world, standing 30 metres (100 feet) tall. They are the landmark feature of The Helix Environmental Regeneration Scheme near Falkirk, Central Scotland. They were the brain-child of sculptor Andy Scott and are one of the largest public artworks in Scotland.
The Kelpies took almost eight years from inception to completion, and now stand as striking gateway features at the eastern entrance to the Forth and Clyde Canal.
From an original brief conceived by George Baliniger, a canal engineer, they are the culmination of a tremendous team effort involving dozens of leading consultants and specialists. The sculptures are best viewed at night when they are illuminated by constantly changing lighting effects.
