Arles Museum of Antiquity
Modern museum built on the former site of the circus, with Roman sarcophagi, sculptures & mosaics from the Augustinian era to 6th century. A huge barge, preserved for centuries in the river silt was recovered and restored between 2011 and 2013.
When Arles-Rhône 3 sank in approx. 50 AD, it was carrying 33 tons of building stones. They were flat, irregular slabs of limestone, from three to six inches thick.
